A qualified landscape architect, Jack co-founded Seed in 2007 and today leads the team in the pursuit of creative excellence—always with the goal of making a genuine impact on people and place. With strong leadership and critical skills, he touches each project in our studio, getting stuck into the details while making room for everyone to contribute and learn. Seeing value in both public projects like Arcus Road, and private spaces like Hidden House, he enjoys working with clients and collaborators who share Seed’s passion for nature and the everyday benefits it brings to communities. He believes that when we push the boundaries of what’s expected within a designed landscape, we can reconnect to wildness and discover new facets of ourselves. With a lifelong love of fishing, walking and running, Jack likes to roam tech-free, deeply absorbed in his surroundings.
Prior to founding Seed, Jack worked for Dan Pearson Studio on a number of public realm projects including the design of a new roof garden for the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London with Hopkins Architects (Stirling Prize shortlisted) and the garden for the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre at Charing Cross Hospital in London with Richard Rogers (Stirling Prize winner). Between 2000 and 2004, he worked at EDCO Design in London where he worked on a variety of urban design and public space developments. He studied Landscape Architecture at Leeds Metropolitan University and earned his Diploma at Greenwich University.

James’s love of the outdoors began with the feeling of sanctuary he experienced riding his bike through the woods as a child. With over 20 years of experience and now a Director at Seed, his role is grounded in horticulture and garden design, blending interests in science and art and shaped by stints studying in Finland and working in France. He’s both visually astute and practically hands-on, applying his deep knowledge of plants and ecology across design, landscape, build and maintenance. He enjoys the tactile nature of working in landscape, continually learning from the places and people he collaborates with, so that our practice is always evolving, never static. James is adept at nurturing long-term relationships with our clients, including his ongoing work for Field House and a commemorative woodland that’s become a major new green space for Frome.
James completed a Horticulture diploma at Berkshire College of Agriculture; BSc (Hons) in Landscape Design at Writtle School of Design with an emphasis on planting; and a Landscape Architecture conversion course at the University of Gloucestershire. He has worked on a number of notable projects including two Chelsea main avenue gardens—one of which (created by Del Buono Gazerwitz) won Gold in 2014. He has collaborated with Piet Oudolf on a private garden in Berkshire, and worked with Emma Clark on a Islamic Chahar-bagh for the award-winning Cambridge Mosque whilst working as an Associate Landscape Architect for Urquhart & Hunt. He has also worked on a number of projects in Europe ranging from a two hectare site in Cap d’Antibes, a coastal project in Cannes, and a private garden in Megève.

Bobbie moved to Bath from Bulgaria to study Architecture, but after graduating and working for practices in the UK and Europe, it was landscape that called to her. Pursuing a career with a deeper connection with nature – where the external environment is valued as highly as the internal – she joined Seed in 2018. Today Bobbie supports Jack and James, overseeing the day-to-day running of projects and bringing a special focus on technical design and 3D. At Waynflete, she enjoyed the challenge of reconnecting the site to the River Cherwell, and at Glastonbury Abbey she was inspired by the huge range of people who visit each year. Whatever the brief, she relishes being on site and physically connecting with the process. She sees sketching as a means of slowing down and taking time to notice the details you might otherwise miss.
Bobbie completed both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Architecture at the University of Bath. Prior to joining Seed, she spent over 2 years working for Macgregor Smith on a variety of urban design and public realm projects, harnessing an interest in landscape architecture and sustainability. She also completed a 9 month placement at Stonewood Design where she worked on ‘The Story of Gardening’ Museum and several private residences.

Zoe pursued art, science and geography at school, which turned out to be the perfect formula for a career in landscape. Super-organised and skilled at synthesising large quantities of information, she is happiest immersed in a mountain of research. Zoe joined Seed in 2021 and has contributed to many projects including Owlstone Croft, bringing nature into the heart of the site through swales and planting design. Drawn to interesting and challenging landscapes inspired by childhood hiking adventures, she’s an empathetic designer and has been instrumental in shaping Seed’s approach to landscape-led housing projects. She has developed strategies for integrating nature, play and water sensitive design into the fabric of our schemes, while exploring ways to embed community cohesion and nurture a sense of ownership for residents. Always delighting in the details, Zoe has a diploma in Botanical Illustration.
Zoe studied Landscape Architecture at Sheffield University where she completed her MLA with Distinction and was awarded a prize for excellence in her field. Prior to joining Seed, she worked at LUC in Edinburgh as part of a year out from her studies; as a gardener at Sussex Prairie; and undertook work experience at Groundwork in Middlesbrough.

As a Chartered Landscape Architect, Phil works across many of our projects from start to finish, bringing an exceptional proficiency in technical design and construction. His extensive, international experience spans public and functional art, play and parks, and major development and landscape infrastructure projects. Design as a catalyst for social interaction is the common thread—including his work for Arcus Road: a community-focused project comprising 36 homes in Lewisham where ordinary design detailing has been pushed beyond its usual capabilities to achieve a sense of safety, freedom and connectedness. Ensuring that the overall vision for a place is carried through every stage of the project, Phil embraces Seed’s commitment to nature, robust process and experimental attitude. Outside the studio, he enjoys making things with his hands, facilitating the creation of 12 welly racks, two libraries and a nature pond at his children’s school.
Before joining Seed, Phil worked at landscape architects Macgregor Smith in Bath, where he worked on major development projects including a 46 ha park. He also held previous roles at Space2place in Vancouver, Canada where he contributed to public play and park projects in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, and Mor Design in Falmouth, Cornwall, with a focus on landscape architecture and public art. Phil studied Spatial Design at Falmouth University.

Katie’s first connection with landscape was formed through gardening a once-neglected plot and she’s carried this hands-on passion through to her role at Seed. Bringing a combination of creative flair and practical knowledge, her early professional experience was grounded in complex commercial developments with a focus on planning. Highly organised and unafraid to ask challenging questions, her projects have included Field House, joining the team during the construction stage and discovering that there’s plenty to be learned from the realities of being on site. She’s also working at Langlands, turning a large area of woodland with a golf course at its heart into a new vision for a place that will sit lightly on the ground. While seeing landscape and architecture as one united discipline, Katie loves being part of a studio where differences of opinion are debated and encouraged.
Katie studied Architecture and Landscape at Sheffield University. Prior to joining Seed, she worked at ACD Environmental, a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy, gaining experience in designing small and large-scale residential schemes including play areas, green infrastructure and public open spaces. She’s also been a member of a farm-to-fork kitchen and cafe team; undertook a placement with social enterprise architecture practice Studio Polpo; and was a member of a research and design team for Part 1 of Parc Project (Public Assets for Resilient Communities)—a collaborative project proposing urban design in Fir Vale to Sheffield City Council.
